Protective Coatings Test Services

Our coating and specialty testing laboratory is available to the industry and offers a wide range of tests including:

Static and Dynamic Tests

Static Tests

This equipment is normally used for testing coatings and reinforced plastic liners of various types and is occasionally used for testing inhibitors, elastomers, and determining corrosion rates of coupons in various environments. Testing can be performed up to 500°F and 10,000 psi using hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, methane, crude oil, and salt water.

Dynamic Tests

Dynamic testing is primarily conventional "wheel" testing. The apparatus consists of an oven capable of heating up to 500°F with a rotating wheel (at 30 RPM) to which containers are fastened. This device is used to screen inhibitors using sandblasted rod coupons in glass bottles. High pressure wheel tests (up to 10,000 psi and 500°F) can also be performed.

Wag Test

This is a special test used to screen various materials (including fiberglass tubing and pipe) for carbon dioxide injection services. Known as the "Wag Well" test, it can be run under both static and dynamic conditions.

Testing of Steels for Wet H2S Services

The evaluation of Steels for Wet H2S Service is one of the specialized services which Corrmet offers in addition to many other special materials engineering and metallurgical capabilities and expertise on the broad technical areas related to materials, testing and corrosion engineering. Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) testing for oil and gas service is defined by NACE standard TM0284. The TM0284 Standard consists of exposing unstressed coupons to a NACE solution TM0177 saturated with H2S at ambient temperature and pressure. After a specified time the coupons are removed and evaluated.

Corrosion Research and Inhibitor Evaluation

Elastomeric Materials Evaluation

Elastomeric materials testing/evaluation is performed per NACE, API, ASTM standards and client specifications. Applicable standards include:

Oil Analysis for Preventative Maintenance

The identification of various contaminants in engine, turbine, and compressor oil can shed light on the condition of internal parts and help predict failures before they occur. Wear metals analysis can identify problems with rings, bearings, and similar parts, while oxidation and nitration tests determine the condition of the lubricant. Corrmet Engineering Services, Inc. provides a comprehensive program of testing and data interpretation that increases the efficiency of your maintenance program and reduces costs incurred from failures and downtime. Programs can be custom designed for individual applications.
